• In order to construct earthquake resistant and cost effective buildings, the Sai Engineering Foundation constructed 24 flats under innovative low cost housing scheme at Mehli, Shimla. It was demonstrated through this project that buildings with adequate space can be constructed at a reasonable cost and possibility of exploitation of home seekers by the builders can be mitigated to a considerable extent.
  • The Foundation has provided these flats on cost to cost basis, thus demonstrating cost effectiveness and maintaining quality aspect of designing and constructing safe buildings.
  • Foundation plans to work in this field to mitigate the housing crisis. There is shortage of housing in Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), Medium Income Group (MIG) and other categories. The shortage is increasing every year. The Foundation intends to provide housing to the people at very reasonable rates. The main hurdle is that the Foundation cannot purchase land without obtaining permission under section 118. It is Herculean task to get permission under section 118. Hence this activity is among the slow starts of the Foundation.
